How Supermajority Will Change Canadian Democracy

When you ask most people to draw a map of Canada, it looks something like this.

But ask a political party, and their map looks like this.

That's because there are 40 ridings that determine which party gets elected.

These swing ridings set the agenda for Canada. What sways voters in these ridings is the most strategically significant to our political parties.

We can hold our political parties to a higher standard.

To do this, Supermajority aims to:

  1. Increase voter turnout in these ridings

  2. Increase voter literacy around the major electoral issues in these ridings

Highly-engaged, highly-informed voters in swing ridings will create a race-to-the-top. Instead of divisive rhetoric, misinformation and cheap shots, all parties will be incentivized to bring real solutions to the problems Canada faces.

Our Story

Supermajority was founded in 2022 by the same group who created and built Future Majority, a project to get out the youth vote on college and university campuses. Our founding mission was to expand this democratic engagement to new under-represented demographics.

As of January 1st, 2024 Supermajority is legally and operationally independent from New Majority (formerly Future Majority) and has no affiliation. You can find more about their good work at https://newmajority.ca/.
